Vampires behave a little differently here. They have some odd traits and some strange ways of life.
Purpose:
Their main purpose is to keep their race alive. Humans have let rumors fly that there are vampires in existance and some have actually found out. Upon the killings by a few humans who have actually wised up and started an underground hunting clan, many of the vamps in the area are being killed off. Therefore, they have developed solutions.
Information:
Since vampires have been being killed off, slayed if you will, they have developed some tactics.
In this world, female vamps are adored, they are the ones who create children, and continue the race. Although females have become more of the independent type, able to fend for themselves, they still are protected greatly to ensure the future race of vamps.
Male vampires are not unlikely to run from female to female to do their part in repopulating their dark world. And upon protecting the vampresses, males die off in the fight, making sure they are taken care of, especially if they are carrying children.
But, there's always those few that don't believe the way things are are correct.
Master Vampires:
They are usually male, and usually own a section of the city. Most have a servant or two depending on how large their area is. Every once in a while a female vampire is a master vampire, but most males won't allow it, for fear either a human servant will turn and lead a hunting clan there, or that another master vampire will kill them to take over their section of the city. These are usually the stronger vampires of the race.
Servants:
Although most humans would love to kill a vamp, there are those who embrace the lifestyle and will become feeders for a master vampire. Master vampires usually own a section of the city, and some humans are willing to serve them. They are in turn paid greatly, but when a master vamp can't hunt, they work well as feeders.
Vampire bites release an endorphin which will give a human a high feeling, like they are floating, and some have become addicted to it.
Some servants are even willing to feed multiple vamps if their master says so. Risking the chance that a vampire will not be able to control themselves and will kill them by taking too much blood. Society usually calls feeders, bloodsleepers.
Other servants are just there to run errands in the daytime.
Others want to join the lifestyle completely.
And others are there undercover, watch who you pick.
Bites:
Vampire teeth can retract and extend, although always have a little bit of a point to them.
Vampire bites contain endorphins to make the victim feel less pain and just relax once their fangs have entered their skin. Upon releasing them, the wound usually heals quickly. Some humans have discovered they are allergic and everyone of them has died shortly after.
Claws:
Vampires have strong fingernails, and usually don't cut their nails, but keep them trimmed so they are still long. Some have even found they can use them for climbing.
Extras:
Some vampires have found the ability to grow wings, usually some form of either demon or angel wings. Wings are able to be grown and sunk back in the flesh of one's back at will, but it is painful. A vampire usually doesn't learn if they have wings or not until they hit about the age of 3 if they were born a vampire.
It is not known why some have them and some do not.
Restrictions:
Vampires are restricted to darkness, and humans have learned to stay inside during the night, although some humans believe that vamps don't exist. Those are the ones that usually die. The sun will not completely kill them. Some are more immune to it than others, but it must be short periods of time in the sun. They can stay to the shadows and be fine, but direct sunlight will harm them, and evantually kill them once exposed to it long enough. Although, sitting behind tinted glass will protect them for a little while.
Meals:
Vampires can last a few days without human blood. One day maximum with no blood at all. Three days if they are feeding on animals. Upon becoming hungery, their eyes start fading to black, no matter what their true eye color is, although most vampires have a strange color for their eyes. Thus, making it easier to spot out the vamps.
They can feed on animals, but some have been discovered to sicken a vamp. The only ones so far have been cats, mice, bats, and snakes.
Behaviors:
They have a weird way of behaving around each other. Upon meeting a challenge, most act just like wolves, pulling back their lips, exposing fangs and snarling, the weaker one usually taking a more croutching stance.
Some vamps are higher ranked than others and upon meeting one, a lower ranked will usually snap their fingers twice, or look at the ground, while passing by. Their way of showing respect to one another silently. A stranger one by some of the younger vamps is nonchalantly closing their eyes and easily starting from the left side of their forehead with their fingertips and combing their hair back towards the right side of their head behind their right ear.
Land:
Land can be claimed. But most of the time must be fought for. Streets can be claimed, whole blocks, or even the entire city if you work hard enough.
Land claims can mean that the owner and his close vamps are the only ones to hunt there to only the owner can hunt there, and his servants are not to be messed with.
Half and Half
Rumors have started that some of the female vamps have snuck out with humans and become pregnant, shortly after, killing the male that was with them. Thus having a half vampire and half human child.
